Description
Excavation of a single trench and two test pits to investigate the two concentric banks surrounding the farm and a large hollow to the south. In Area A Trench 1 was dug, positioned across exant portions of both the inner and outer curving banks. The trench measured 12.1m in length and 1.50m in width. Area B is located in an area with a sub-rectangular hollow measuring c. 16 x 13m with a depth of 1.2m. Two test pits were excavated around the hollow.
The banks and hollow appear to be relatively recent in origin due to the recovery of modern brik and slate from the fills of the excavated features. The hollow probably represents a pre-war chalk quarry pit.
