Description
Observations and recording during refurbishment works to the car park. Refurbishment proposals were designed in relation to a variation in Scheduled Monument Consent re-issued on 31 January 2019 (S00132863), in which proposals were revised to have very limited impact on archaeological deposits. Groundworks were limited to 450mm in depth, and no finds or deposits of archaeological significance were recorded. This confirms the results of earlier work in the area suggesting overburden ranging from 500mm to 1m in depth and sealing in situ archaeological deposits related to Christchurch Priory.
