Description

Excavations in 1968 for the Ministry of Works at the edge of the mound of the barrow revealed a post hole. The excavators interpreted this as a support for a cremation pyre. A nearby pit contained cremated bone and ash, and was outside and earlier than the ditch around the barrow.
