Description
Observations and recording during partial demolition and development. In the northernmost trench a very large ditch was found running adjacent to and parallel with East Street. A late medieval date was attributed to this ditch based upon the pottery recovered from it. In the same trench as the large ditch but on a slightly different alignment was a short stretch of wall foundation. This survived to a height of two courses and was constructed of large stones adhered together with clay. During the renovation of the former Pure Drop Inn some elements of the original roof structure were identified in the roof space and the opportunity to record these was also taken.
