Description

Evaluation of a possible ornamental canal within the parkland prior to estate management proposals. The T-shaped canal, located to the west edge of Decoy Wood, was shown to have been constructed in the late 17th/early18th century. A spillway recorded by Edward Gibbon during a visit in 1762 was also recorded. Spoil from the canal contained large quantities ofburnt flint and Neolithic/Bronze Age struck flints, suggesting the feature is sited on a prehistoric occupation/settlement site. Funded by High HallEstates.
