Description

In January 1985 excavations were carried out in advance of an extension to the buildings within the existing Army Radar Compound on the crest of the western end of the hill and immediately to the south of an original entrance way excavated during Sir Mortimer Wheeler’s examination of the site in 1950. The limited excavations confirmed what a visual inspection of the site had suggested: all stratigraphy above the bedrock had been removed during the construction of the Army Radar Compound, which had been levelled down into the crest of the hill.
