Description
John Campbell, an Oxford University doctoral research student, re-examined the Upper Palaeolithic site discovered by Angela Mace, focusing on the area to the east near the cliff edge. The excavation was undertaken in three short seasons in April-May 1968, June-July 1968 and April 1969 and a total of 136 square metres were investigated. Campbell thought he had discovered two discrete occupation levels at the site, one Upper Palaeolithic and one Mesolithic. This conclusion has subsequently been disproved and the site is all Upper Palaeolithic in date. (4)
