Description

Poole Museum Service carried out a watching brief during the excavation of a new pontoon dock in the Sunseeker's boatyard, Hamworthy in August-September 1995. The conditions for the watching brief were poor because it was not possible to enter the trench, which was excavated by a machine with a toothed bucket. Nevertheless, the general stratigraphic sequence could be determined and part of a late Saxon oyster midden was encountered. In addition a post-medieval stone sea wall and a number of timber baulks were observed. (1)
