Description

Wessex Archaeology undertook an evaluation of the site of a proposed new Sewage Treatment Works in a field to the south of Wych Farm, to the northeast of West Bay. This field lay in a predominantly flat alluvial zone sloping down slightly to the west. A total of six machine-dug trenches (1-6), measuring 20m by 1.5m were excavated across the site, comprising a c. 2.5% sample of the area. The trenches all revealed a similar sequence of natural brownish-yellow silty clay beneath a 0.3m thick layer of topsoil. No archaeological features were encountered. A small quantity of post-medieval pottery, glass and building material was recovered. (1)
