Description

An archaeological evaluation of the site of a proposed residential development on land at 22 West Walls was carried out by AC Archaeology in November 2002. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of two trenches, each 5m long and 1.4m wide and located within the garden of an existing house. Both trenches contained occupation soils up to 1m thick. In Trench 1, an additional layer immediately above the natural subsoil was interpreted as possibly indicating medieval settlement or industrial type activity on or close to the site, but no associated features or structures were present.
