Description

A watching brief during excavation of footings for a new building revealed that much of the area had been disturbed by modern service trenches. The only archaeological feature of note was foundation wall of stables constructed on the site in 1870s, and all the observed archaeology related to the redevelopment of the site at that time. The author concluded that the groundworks were not sufficiently deep or extensive to show whether there were surviving remains of earlier buildings on the site.
