Description
A skeleton was discovered in 1977 while digging foundations and excavated by A Boulter and B Squibb. It was of a woman aged 20-23, in a contracted position with the head lying to the West placed on a 'pillow' of stones. A 2nd century black burnished ware jar, small iron ring and iron objects were also in the grave. The skeleton and pottery was deposited at Weymouth Museum and the other finds were cleaned for further examination at the Archaeological Laboratory, Dorset Institute of Higher Education. Dorset Institute of Higher Education holds the metalwork from this excavation for conservation. Dorset County Museum also holds a copy of a drawing of a skeleton.
