Description

A hoard of 1663 Roman coins dating from 310-318 AD was found in a field near Upton House in February 1986. Poole Museums Service undertook a small excavation at the findspot. A roughly two metres squared trench was opened and revealed a small pit, together with the disturbance caused by the initial removal of the hoard. A further 21 coins, some briquetage and the remains of two pots which had been used to contain the hoard were recovered. (1)
