Full Description

A small isolated pit recorded during an evaluation on land at Forge Cottage, Dewlish. The pit measured at leas 0.83m by 0.80m and was 0.27m deep. The fill of the pit was dark yellowish brown, sandy silt loam and contained pottery of late 13th/ early 14th century date. This was the only feature recorded of earlier than Post-Medieval date. The excavators concluded that there was some evidence of Medieval activity at the front of the plot and the rest of the area was likely to have been field systems. (1)
