Summary

Formal gardens to Bingham's Melcombe, laid out during the 16th century, possibly after circa 1554. In 1949 Geoffrey Jellicoe was commissioned to restore the gardens, and his involvement continued intermittently until 1979. Planting plans were provided by Brenda Colvin.

Full Description

Formal gardens of 16th century origin, restored late 1930s, c.5ha, within c.66ha parkland, pasture and woodland. Early 19th century ice house, 20m to north of house; 17th century dovecote 30m to north of house. To west of bowling green, boundary wall and summer house, dated 1748. Orchard further north and north east, bounded by avenue of mature trees. <2>
