Summary

Small sections of Roman road gravels were observed under the pavement on the north side of Durngate Street, Dorchester in 1988. The road metalling lay directly on top of the reddish-brown pre-urban clay soil. This road is probably part of the same E-W street as found on the Old Methodist Chapel site in 1982, which lies just to the west.

Small sections of Roman road gravels were observed under the pavement on the north side of Durngate Street, Dorchester in 1988. The road metalling lay directly on top of the reddish-brown pre-urban clay soil. This road is probably part of the same E-W street as found on the Old Methodist Chapel site in 1982, which lies just to the west.
