Monument record MDO19138 - Poundbury, Dorchester; Late Roman Infant burial D586

Infant burial D586 was a foetal/neonate crouched inhumation on its right side, buried in a shallow oval grave aligned N-S against the west wall in the northern half of Building R16, found during the 1966-1979 exavations at Poundbury. It was one of nine infant burials found within Building R16.

Found during the excavations directed by Christopher Sparey Green, for the Dorchester Excavation Committee, between 1966 and 1979 during development of the Grove Trading Estate on the eastern slopes of Poundbury Camp, Dorchester (1) (2). The numbers in square brackets below refer to the context and feature numbers used in the published report and archive (1)(2)(3).
