Parchmarks visible on a photgraph taken from Christchurch Priory Tower during 1992 may indicate the position of a Saxon royal residence mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for 900 AD (1).
These parch marks seem to represent buried stone foundations and, as such, are more likley to represent a medieval priory building or post-medieval secular building rather than a Saxon Royal residence. The latter strucure would more likely be a large post-built hall.
