Full Description
There was a building, not named, here in 1828 (1); two sheds in 1850 (2), a building in 1863 (3) and 1901. (4) The SW end was roofless in 1927 when there were three much smaller buildings nearby. (5) Built of large blocks, with a stepped SW gable and chimney (smithy?). Walls of another building (or smithy) immediately SW. Ricketts calls this a smithy. (6)
This is the Listed ‘Fishermen’s Hut’ building (DDO14147) which is given the wrong grid reference in the listing notes.
The 19th century building, described above (in 1-6), is visible as a structure with a group of smaller buildings around it on aerial photographs of the 1940s. The buildings are visible over an area measuring 41 by 24 m. One of the group of smaller buildings may be the storehouse referred to in MDO19689. (7) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
