Full Description
Found during excavations conducted by Wessex Archaeology during January 1997 in advance of a housing development (Knotts Paddock) south of Tinney’s Lane, Sherborne. The results of the excavation have been published in PDNHAS, 121, 53-69 (1). Numbers in square brackets below refer to context numbers given in this report.
‘A sherd of Romano-British pottery was the only find from the single fill of linear [41] at the north end of the site. Oriented N-S, this shallow (0.25m deep) linear, 0.8m wide and with an obtuse, v-shaped profile, was cut at its south end by ditch [36]. Although the postulated dating is inconclusive, the stratigraphic evidence supports a pre-medieval date for this feature.’ (1)
