Full Description
A watching brief undertaken by Exeter Archaeology in 2006-7 during groundworks on a site adjacent to 13 Gundry Lane, Bridport revealed traces of 19th and 20th century activity only. Six pits filled with dark-mid brown silty clays containing varying quantities of rubble, brick, slate, mortar, glass and 19th-20th century pottery were exposed in all but the NW part of the site. A stone-filled drain was also noted. Along the edge of the street frontage to the north was found the base of a stone wall, presumably the boundary or garden wall to the site. Two drains were also found running along the line of Gundry Lane, one a brick culvert and the other a collapsed stone drain.
The character of the archaeology suggests that this plot was probably a yard that serviced nearby buildings.
