Maritime record MDO20216 - Sidon

Intact remains of a British submarine which was scuttled deliberately in 1957 as an Asdic Sonar target. She still lies where she was scuttled, some 7 miles west of Blacknor Point, WNW of the Bill of Portland. She originally sank following the explosion of an un deployed torpedo inside the vessel while moored in Portland Harbour in 1955, but was lifted and later towed to its scuttling position.

Severely damaged by an explosion on board when in Portland Harbour. Subsequently scuttled as an asdic training target. 16/06/1955 is the date of the explosion on board, the submarine was scuttled in 1957.
