Full Description

[SY 58709047] A sub-rectangular enclosure situated at the head and across the floor of a very shallow valley which
extends to the E.N.E. It has been much ploughed down and was under young crops at the time of investigation. The two sides which are in Little Bredy parish are formed by banks with a high flint content and average 0.8m wide overall and 0.4m high. The western sides, in Kingston Russell parish are traceable by their flint content only.

There is no identifiable entrance to the enclosure. Within its eastern half are two lynchets 2.0m to 3.0m. wide and 0.3m. high, and one of these merges into the enclosure bank. No surface finds were made. Visible on Dr. St. Joseph's A.P. No. BZ.68. Surveyed on 25" Antiquity Model. <1>

Its form, topographical situation and internal lynchet-like slopes are comparable to the valley enclosures more commonly found in Sussex. <2>

The enclosure, spread by ploughing, is only just discernible and no longer surveyable. <4>

A sub-rectangular enclosure, 52m by 50m across, is visible as cropmarks and low earthworks on aerial photographs. The enclosure is defined by a ditch with internal bank and is of uncertain date and function. <5>
