Full Description
The pit was approximately 1.2m wide and 1m deep, with steeply-sloping sides and a flat base. The filling of the pit was a black humic soil with frequent charcoal pieces. Finds included chunks of brick, roof tile, oyster shell and one piece of pottery - a sherd of Verwood pottery of eighteenth-century date. The pit is dated to this period on the basis of this one find, which was approximately half-way down the filling of the pit. (1)
