Summary
independent Chapel first shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885.
A church which originated in the late 17th century, possibly under the influence of the vicar, William Alleine, ejected 1660, came to be described as Presbyterian in the 18th century. A barn at the rear of the present site was used for meetings until its destruction in the town fire of 1731. The present chapel replaced that on this site in 1867. It has white and red brick dressings, a gabled front, and has a large wheel window over the entrance.
