Monument record MDO25251 - Ballarat Farm, linear banks

Linear banks visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs. The features appear to respect the modern field pattern and are considered likely to be field boundaries or trackways of medieval or later date. Detected in the Winterbourne Abbas Corridor Geophysical Suvey in 2017 (EDO7852).

Linear banks visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs {1}. The features appear to respect the modern field pattern and are considered likely to be field boundaries or trackways of medieval or later date. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Detected in the Winterbourne Abbas Corridor Geophysical Suvey in 2017 (EDO7852) as a pair of parallel ditch fills about 10m apart. Between them is a band of low magnetic susceptibility ground and overall the group could be interpreted as a broad trackway. Detected in field 392B and the line was traced for a further 1km northeast as a continuous curving field boundary with short transverse doglegs again of about 10m length and typical of the enclosure of a former track.
