Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-5}. One is shown on the 1880 OS map {6} as a chalk pit and is considered likely to be of post medieval origin. The remainder are probably of a similar origin, although some could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
