Find Spot record MDO2558 - Bronze Age pottery found at Langford Gate, Stratton

Sherds of pottery given to the Dorset County Museum in 1932 were found, according to a note with the pottery, some time before 1928 when the house called Langford Gate was built. The pottery has stabbed and combed decoration and together the pieces represent the greater part of two food vessels and the rim of at least one other. Cremated bones were found, and this collection of material is thought possibly to have come from a barrow.

SY 63779560. Sherds representing substantial portions of two food vessels and at least the rim of a third, were found during the construction of the house known as Langford Gate, sometime before 1928. One has diagonal impressions, one is undecorated, the third has a single applied ridge on the body. Attributed to the Middle Bronze Age. There were also cremated bones and a piece of volite. Probably from a barrow burial, although one is not recorded. Finds are in Dorset County Museum (Acc No 1932.10.2). <1>
