Summary

A World War II coastal observation post situated on The Knoll. It is a square-shaped building constructed of brick and concrete and was built in 1940-41. The post faces north and most probably interacted with the three pillboxes on the reverse side of The Knoll which are part of the Chesil Beach defences. A field visit in 1995 found the structure to be in a good condition. The post is visible on aerial photographs and was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping project.

Full Description

A square shaped building with a concrete roof. The roof concrete is highly impregnated with stones. The OP faces N and most probably interacted with the 3 pillboxes on the reverse side of the knoll (facing S) which are part of the Chesil Beach defences. Inside there is a small fireplace with chimney exiting through the concrete roof. A large window at front with entry door next to it.The Knoll, Puncknowle. <1-3>
