Summary

One of a group of three bowl barrows. In 1952 this monument was reported as being around 39 feet in diameter with a mound about one foot high. The barrow is visible as a very low sub-circular earthwork on a 1947 and a 1995 aerial photograph and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Two bowl barrows on Cross Hill. That to the west is 57 feet in diameter by 3 feet high, the other 39 feet in diameter by 1 foot high. <1-2>

Two grass-covered bowl barrows prominently sited on a small spur. Both are much spread by ploughing and have no visible ditches. … ST 62290168. Diameter 22.0m, height 0.5m. Surveyed at 1:2500. <4>

Manuscript annotation to the record card notes: Condition poor, 1 ft high but visible - no ditches. Under pasture. Visited 7/6/83 LJK/MS. <5>

The barrow is visible as a very low sub-circular earthwork on a 1947 and a 1995 aerial photograph <6, 7>. It measures just over 11m in diameter and appears very plough reduced. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
