Monument record MDO2617 - Bowl barrow, Sydling St Nicholas

A round barrow, probably a bowl barrow. In 1952 this monument was reported as being around 39 feet in diameter with a mound about four feet high. It has been mutilated and disturbed, possibly in the course of antiquarian investigation. A possible ring ditch visible as a cropmark at this location on a 1945 aerial photograph may be this feature (2). The possible ring ditch is faint but appears to be approximately 18.7 m in diameter. An internal mound is visible as a faint earthwork on a 1947 aerial; photograph. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
