Full Description

A parish church with some 15th century elements surviving, almost entirely rebuilt in the 19th century. The north chapel is thought to date to 1630. In 1857 Sir George Gilbert Scott rebuilt the chancel and parts of the nave, added the south aisle and inserted the west window. In 1873, his son, George Gilbert Scott junior, demolished the old tower and replaced it. He also added the north aisle, the north porch and the vestry. The tower was destroyed in 1940 and never rebuilt. Some fragments of Saxon carving can be seen in the chancel north wall. <1-2>

A 9th-10th century cross-arm with central roundel is set in a niche inside the Easter sepulchre in the chancel, both sides being visible. <3>
