Type and Period (1)

Full Description

The site of an ancient chapel situated at Maudlin and said to have been connected with Forde Abbey. <1>

A marriage settlement of 1655 includes "All that messuage or tenement called or named by the name of Magdalen Chappell" and a Tithe Map of 1841 shows a small rectangular building measuring approximately 11.0m north-south by 9.0m east-west in the position occupied by the OS siting symbol.

The mention of "Magdalen Chapell" in the settlement of 1655 suggests that there was a place of worhip here, but further research failed to find any confirmation. <2>
