Summary

Bronze Age bell barrow. In 1972 this monument was reported as 88 feet in diameter with a flat-topped mound 10½ feet above the berm, with an encircling ditch 23 feet wide and 2 feet deep. Visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

Grinsell recorded this barrow as 88 feet in diameter and 10½ feet high above the berm. The berm was 9 feet wide and the ditch 23 feet wide and 2 feet deep. <1>

Round Barrows: … 'B' Bell (67978572) 120 yds. E. of 'A'. Diam. of flat topped mound 88 ft., ht. above berm 10 1/2 ft. The berm is 9 ft. wide and 1 1/2 ft. above surrounding ground level within a ditch 23 ft. wide and 2 ft. deep. Much damaged. <1> <3>

'B' SY 67968571 Bell barrow of overall diameter 48.0m and height 3.4m. Berm 5.0m wide, and ditch 7.0m wide and 0.5m deep. Re-surveyed. at 1:2500 on MSD. See ground photographs. <4>

Visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs <7>. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
