Monument record MDO27163 - Chalk Pit, Tarrant Monkton

A chalk pit shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885. The feature is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

A Post Medieval chalk pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9546 0863 and comprises a linear quarry which measures a maximum of 53m long by 16m wide and is orientated north-west / south-east. The chalk pit cuts into a Medieval hollow way and is marked on the 1888 Ordnance Survey map. <1-2>

The feature is cut into a medieval hollow way (MDO45155; NRHE Hob UID 209276) which runs in towards the feature from the northwest and continues southeast beyond it. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
