Monument record MDO2726 - Bronze Age bowl barrow north of Clyffe House, Clyffe Copse, Tincleton

Bowl barrow, lies in dense undergrowth amd is surrounded by a low bank, almost certainly not original. 36ft. in diam and 4.5ft. high. The diameter of the bank from crest to crest is 61ft. (RCHM). The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010.

Two round barrows in Clyffe Copse are covered in a tangled growth of bushes, but neither of them bears any trace of mutilation or any indication of a surrounding ditch. 'B' - SY 78189242. Bowl barrow, 13.0m diameter and 1.3m high in the southern quadrant. <2>

'B' - (7) SY 78189243. Bowl barrow, 36ft diameter and 41/2ft high, lies in dense undergrowth. It is surrounded by a low bank, almost certainly not original, which is 61ft diameter and from crest to crest. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 14 paces diameter x 41/4ft high. Taylor's map of Clyffe Farm 1770, depicts these barrows as small rings enclosing trees and the word 'plantation' applied to them. The bank surrounding barrow 'B' is therefore probably a tree-ring. <3-4>

'A' SY 78149243 and 'B' SY 78169242. Both these barrows survive but are so thickly overgrown that it is impossible to determine

The barrow referred to above is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 12 m in diameter. <6> The barrow is scheduled with another barrow, located immediately to the west (see MDO2725). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
