A Second World War slit trench is visible as an earthworks on aerial photographs of 1947 on the southern coastline of Hengistbury Head. The trench may have been associated with the defences around the Chain Home radar site (see MD28870) or RAF Southbourne (see MWX1164). The earthworks consist of an angled trench measuring 16 m in total length. (1) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
