A large extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Arne Heath. It is not marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map suggesting that it is probably Late Nineteenth Century or Early Modern in origin.

Full Description

A large extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Arne Heath (1). It is not marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map (2) suggesting that it is probably Late Nineteenth Century or Early Modern in origin. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is still visible as an earthwork on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (3).
