A Second World War radar station is visible as structure on aerial photographs of the 1940s <4> to the east of Lloyds Cottage, Portland. The complex of buildings is on the site of,or may incorporate, an earlier signal station (see MDO19628) and a semaphore station (see MWX4401). The site consists of two complexes of buildings, masts and other scattered buildings, connected up by paths and surrounded by barbed wire entanglements. Several foxholes and slit trenches are positioned around the buildings. The radar station complex covers an area measuring approximately 325 m by 260 m. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). The Pillbox Study Group also list one of the defensive trenches within this site, but this has not been separetely numbered.
