Full Description

A vertically-sided pit was found in Test Pit 3 during archaeological evaluation of the grounds of Shaftesbury Museum by AC archaeology in 2008. The pit was only partially exposed and was at least two metres deep and at least one metre by 0.4 m across. It was filled with dark grey silty clay with patches of yellowish-brown clay and contained oyster shell and charcoal flecks. No dating evidence was recovered by its stratigraphic position suggested it was medieval in date. (1)
