Full Description
A group of buildings and structures surrounded by a large circular perimeter fence, approximately 450m in diameter, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1945 (1), located just to the west of Part Square Plantation. These features are considered likely to be the site of a Second World War military site. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. The most recent aerial imagery available to the project indicate that the buildings, structures and perimeter fencing have now been demolished or removed, although the circular outline of where the fencing once stood is still partially reflected in the modern field pattern. A series of trackways criss-crossing this area (MDO3075) are considered likely to be contemporary with this site.
