A medieval or post medieval extractive pit is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of the 1970s to the north of Athelhampton Road, Burleston. The pit is located on the Portsdown Chalk Formation and measures 22 m by 27 m. (1) This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
