Full Description

Five areas of possibly late post medieval to modern quarrying is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1945 to the south of Belle Vue Farm, Swanage. The quarries are situated on Limestone. The earthworks comprise: small pits; a walled enclosure around a shaft; and two small structures adjacent to four shafts. The earthworks are visible over an area measuring approximately 435 m by 150 m. (1) These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
