Full Description

An area of possible post medieval possible extractive pits, or natural solution holes, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1944 and 1947 to the west of Bere Regis. The pits are located on the edge of Portsdown Chalk Formation. They are visible over an area measuring approximately 280 m by 125 m and measure between 37 m by 27 m and 3 m in diameter. (1-3) These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
