Full Description
A group of linear ridges and furrows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of New Mills Heath, Corfe Castle taken in 1946 (1). They are considered likely to be the remains of post medieval cultivation marks. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.

A group of fields surrounding Scotland farm house (see 110128) and barn represent early enclosure of the heath on the good soils along the banks of the Corfe River. The fields closest to the farm buildings are shown on Treswell’s map of 1586. The field on the west side of the farm house is described as “newly enclosed”. Further enclosures to the north are shown on William Woodward’s map of 1775. The fields north of SY964842 are 19th century enclosures (see figs 8,16,17).
