Monument record MDO3153 - Bowl barrow in the Ridge Hill group, Winterborne St Martin

A Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of five barrows and part of a larger barrow cemetery extending along the Dorset Ridgeway. This monument was recorded as an extant mound by field investigators, and is visible as circular earthwork mound on aerial photographs.

Five round barrows on Ridge Hill: 'B'. Bowl (63858686) 50 yds. east of 'A'. Diam 34 ft, ht 3 ft. Depression 24 ft in diam, and 3 ft deep lies at foot of mound on north. <1> <3>

'B' SY 63858686. Bowl barrow; diameter 12.0m., height 1.5m. No visible ditch. All the barrows are in an arable field but only 'D' has been ploughed over. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <4>

All the barrows are in an arable field. Also visible as circular earthwork mound on aerial photographs <7-10>, measuring approximately 18.8 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Diameter 12.0m and ht. 1.5m. The mound is covered in established grass but it has been damaged by basal ploughing. The rest of the field is in ley pasture. 1/4/C
