Full Description
A strong linear earthen bank and ditch overlies part of the 'Celtic' field system. It is of post-medieval or later origin and repreaents an attempt to enclose part of the steep south-facing hillslope. The bank is about 0.6m high and the silted ditch 0.5m deep. <1-2>
A linear bank and ditched feature is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs <3-4>, running southwest - northeast across the southern part of Corfe Common, Corfe Castle. It overlies the remains of a late prehistoric enclosed field system (MDO7525) and is considered likely to be the remains of a historic field boundary, probably constructed in the post medieval period to define plots for livestock. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck mapping project.
