Full Description
The remains of Mediaeval Purbeck Marble quarrying situated towards the west end of the extensive Mediaeval marble quarries (principally famous in the 13th centry), running eastward along the northern slope of Purbeck Hill to Swanage, from Hazel View to Lynch Farm. The site consists of a small isolated area of undulating ground. <1>
A group of pits and spoil heaps are visible as earthworks in aerial photographs of West Lynch, Corfe Castle <3-4>. They are considered likely to be the remains of medieval marble quarrying. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck mapping project.
