Full Description
A small group of quarries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the north of Lawford Sheard Gate, Povington Hill (1). They are partially marked on the OS 1st Edition map. The underlying geology is chalk, they are therefore considered likely to be post medieval chalk pits. The site is obscured by trees on recent Google Earth imagery; it was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
