A small extractive pit or quarry is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the south side of Povington Hill to the east of Lawford Sheard Gate (1). It is considered likely to be a post medieval chalk pit. The site is not marked on the OS 1st Edition Map but is still visible on recent Google Earth imagery; it was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
